NTSC Publishes National Data Breach Notification Legislation Article in the Atlanta Business Chronicle

On March 24, 2017, the Atlanta Business Chronicle published “Nation Needs to Unify Data Breach Standards” in its Industry Focus section on Cybersecurity. Written by NTSC Executive Director Patrick Gaul, the article talks about the devastating costs of a data breach to companies in the United States and why we need a national data breach notification law to reduce those costs.

In the article, Patrick addresses:

  • The differences between direct and indirect data breach costs—with indirect costs usually hitting a company’s bottom line hardest.
  • How data breach notification becomes ridiculously complex when companies need to reply individually to 51 states and territories in addition to complying with a host of federal regulations.
  • How a national data breach notification law would alleviate many of the legal and financial pains burdening companies in the United States.
