Voya Financial CISO Raj Badhwar Joins NTSC Board of Directors

Wednesday, September 12, 2018

ATLANTA (September 12, 2018) – Raj Badhwar, Chief Information Security Officer of Voya Financial, has been appointed to serve on the National Technology Security Coalition’s (NTSC) Board of Directors. Representing the financial services industry, Badhwar will help influence the strategic direction of the NTSC and join CISOs who represent a broad cross-section of enterprise companies. These CISOs have a vested interest in protecting the security of their customers and employees through policies that improve national cybersecurity standards and awareness.

“During my career in industries such as financial services and insurance, I’ve seen the impact, both good and bad, of national cybersecurity policies on companies,” said Badhwar. “The right laws, policies, and regulations help CISOs do their jobs better, while the wrong ones add burdens focused more on compliance than security. An organization such as the NTSC puts CISOs in direct dialogue with lawmakers and policymakers in Washington D.C. so that our unique concerns are voiced. I look forward to working with my peers to increase the amount of public-private sector dialogue taking place between CISOs and Washington D.C.”

As Senior Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer, Badhwar is responsible for advancing the Voya information security strategy as well as defining associated policies and standards for achieving the strategy. He leads a team accountable for developing, managing, and maintaining the information security and protection policies and standards for all company computing, privacy, and collection activities. Badhwar joined Voya Financial with more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity engineering and operations. Most recently, he was global head of information security for AIG, where he led a security strategy centered on the protection and preservation of information assets.

“As a friend and partner of the NTSC since 2017, Voya Financial is a Fortune 500 company that understands the importance of strengthening the public and private sector dialogue around national cybersecurity standards,” said Patrick Gaul, Executive Director of the NTSC. “We are excited about Raj joining our Board of Directors and offering his perspectives based on his decades of information security leadership experience and intricate understanding of cybersecurity policy. He will also help us think about policy in emerging and evolving areas such as cryptography, zero trust networks, and artificial intelligence applied to incident response where he has conducted extensive research.”

The NTSC provides a platform for CISOs to advocate for beneficial legislative and regulatory policies. We encourage dialogue about cybersecurity issues, laws, and regulations through advocacy engagement with congressional members, regional CISO policy roundtables, and our National CISO Policy Conference.

Badhwar joins a prestigious board of CISOs from leading companies including Aaron’s, Aflac, AIG, Archer Daniels, AutoNation, Baker Hughes, Citi, Cox Automotive, Discover Financial Services, Dollar Tree, Ellie Mae, Globe Life, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services, Huntington Bank, Johnson & Johnson, MassMutual, Mastercard, McKesson, Motorola Mobility, NCR, Ohio State University, Pulte Group, Synovus, TaxSlayer, Technology Association of Georgia, TransUnion, Turner, United Airlines, US Bank, and Western Digital.
