NTSC Applauds Creation of DHS National Risk Management Center

Monday, August 6, 2018

ATLANTA, GA (August 6, 2018) – NTSC Executive Director Patrick Gaul applauded the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) announcement last Tuesday of its establishment of a National Risk Management Center. According to DHS, the National Risk Management Center will create a cross-cutting risk management approach between the private sector and government to improve the defense of our nation’s critical infrastructure.

“The creation of a National Risk Management Center, beginning with a focus on the financial services, electricity, and telecommunications industries, is a great and necessary evolution toward more productive public-private sector partnerships that help protect critical infrastructure from cyberattacks and also give the private sector more help in mitigating cybersecurity risks," noted Gaul. “We also applaud DHS’s focus on cybersecurity risks to the supply chain and continued efforts to improve the usefulness of cyber threat intelligence information sharing. In its work with DHS over the past two years, the National Technology Security Coalition has been encouraged by the dialogue between our member CISOs and DHS leadership about ways that we can improve our partnership and benefit from each other’s strengths as cybersecurity becomes more serious, sophisticated, and challenging for the private sector."

As the preeminent trade association for the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the NTSC looks forward to our continued dialogue and work with DHS and its new National Risk Management Center to encourage a stronger public-private sector partnership and improve cyber threat intelligence sharing within our CISO community.

The NTSC provides a platform for CISOs to advocate for beneficial legislative and regulatory policies. We encourage dialogue about cybersecurity issues, laws, and regulations through advocacy engagement with congressional members, regional CISO policy roundtables, and our National CISO Policy Conference.
