Unisys CISO Mathew Newfield Joins NTSC Board of Directors

Friday, September 21, 2018

ATLANTA (September 21, 2018) – Mathew Newfield, Chief Information Security Officer of Unisys, has been appointed to serve on the National Technology Security Coalition’s (NTSC) Board of Directors. Representing the technology industry, Newfield will help influence the strategic direction of the NTSC and join CISOs who represent a broad cross-section of enterprise companies. These CISOs have a vested interest in protecting the security of their customers and employees through policies that improve national cybersecurity standards and awareness.

“Federal and state cybersecurity laws, policies, and regulations powerfully affect how CISOs protect companies and mitigate risk,” said Newfield. “During my career, I’ve overseen many risk audits that uncover security vulnerabilities that teams want to address but end up hindered by seemingly irrelevant compliance requirements. CISOs need a seat at the table when cybersecurity legislation is crafted, and that is why I’m excited to join the NTSC Board of Directors. With an industry-agnostic, non-partisan point of view, the CISO community will help educate lawmakers in Washington D.C. about pragmatic legislation and regulations needed to keep companies and consumers secure.”

Joining the Unisys leadership team as the Corporate Chief Information Security Officer in March 2018, Newfield leads the Unisys Corporate Information Security team with responsibility for design, development, and implementation of the company's corporate information security and risk programs across all regions and functions. Newfield has over 19 years of experience in information technology with a focus on security, software as a service operations, risk auditing and management, and international mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Unisys, he was the Director of Global Managed Security Services for IBM where he had responsibility for delivery services in 133 countries and managed a staff of 1,500 security professionals.

“In addition to Mat’s CISO experience, he is also a published author on topics related to security, a speaker on cybersecurity, and has been an instructor at the SANS Institute,” said Patrick Gaul, Executive Director of the NTSC. “A true thought leader in cybersecurity, Mat thinks about our industry’s problems at a 10,000-foot level while also living the reality in the trenches every day at Unisys. He is an ideal person to join the NTSC Board of Directors. His thinking, experience, and perspectives on the NTSC’s key policy positions will help us when our board engages lawmakers in Washington D.C.”

“Unisys strongly supports Mat’s appointment to the NTSC,” said Eric Hutto, Senior Vice President and President, Enterprise Solutions, for Unisys. “His deep knowledge of security trends and his extensive experience protecting the critical assets of companies like Unisys and its clients will contribute greatly to the coalition’s essential mission of advising policymakers and other stakeholders on issues related to cybersecurity.”

The NTSC provides a platform for CISOs to advocate for beneficial legislative and regulatory policies. We encourage dialogue about cybersecurity issues, laws, and regulations through advocacy engagement with congressional members, regional CISO policy roundtables, and our National CISO Policy Conference.

Newfield joins a prestigious board of CISOs from leading companies including Aaron’s, Aflac, AIG, Archer Daniels, AutoNation, Baker Hughes, Citi, Cox Automotive, Discover Financial Services, Dollar Tree, Ellie Mae, Globe Life, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services, Huntington Bank, Johnson & Johnson, MassMutual, Mastercard, McKesson, Motorola Mobility, NCR, Ohio State University, Pulte Group, Synovus, TaxSlayer, Technology Association of Georgia, TransUnion, Turner, United Airlines, US Bank, Voya Financial, Western Digital, and Zocdoc.
